In this monthly piece, I’m going to focus on the fun and interesting news coming out about Airbnb. I’ll mostly be ignoring news from governments and special-interest groups about regulation, litigation, taxes, housing crisis, etc. This post is Airbnb news September 2018.

A rather technical article I’ve read but provides some useful insight on how search works.
A whirlpool in your bathroom is #8. This would be very unique, thus a highly sellable item. Vacation = relaxation.
What do you all think? I think that 100% this will not happen. Here’s why: It will piss off more hosts than it will make happy. Not every host will receive equity, but every host will feel entitled. Even those hosts who would receive equity, I’m sure they’ll receive less than they expect. Additionally, the most profitable hosts are likely those with many homes available for rent where receiving equity is less appetizing then the Airbnb host renting out their extra room at $50/night. If that weren’t enough, they’ll need to work on how to offer equity to hosts of 191 countries all while fighting/working with many more countries in legalizing Airbnb.
It’s a nice idea, but one that won’t work out. However, in exchange, they’ll create a host only festival or something of the sort in exchange for this hopeful strategy.

Geared towards US veterans in the Open Homes program. I think an international medical travel program could bring in quite a bit of money, especially as it becomes more popular with common procedures much less than 50% of the cost in the US.
Quirky = sellable, so this makes sense, right? What’s your ‘surprise+delight’ feature? If not, reach out to me to help you figure it out.
BUD & BREAKFAST There’s now a CANNABIS-themed version of Airbnb – where you can search for B and Bs that will let you smoke weed
Not enough reservations? Try the weed-friendly Airbnb! Though most guests seem to think this is allowed in regular Airbnbs, anyways.
